Get Those Arms Summer-Ready!

Tank-top season is right around the corner and I have got a great exercise to get your body ready! This simple (but challenging) exercise will help you tone up your arms, shoulders, back and abs! Add my “Awesome Arm Sculptor” to your fitness routine and you’ll be ready to show off those arms in no time!

Awesome Arm Sculptor

Place two 5 – 10 pound dumbbells on the floor parallel to each other. Place your hands on the dumbbells and get into the start of push-up position (arms straight, body in a straight line, core tight). Maintaining a strong posture, slowly lower yourself down into a push-up and strongly press back into starting position. Now, “row” the right dumbbell by lifting it off the ground and right by your ribs.  Try not to twist or tilt your body; if necessary, widen the base of your feet for extra support. Lower it back down and repeat with the left dumbbell. Next, perform a “squat thrust” by jumping your feet up towards your hands and then quickly back into starting position. You have completed 1 repetition! Repeat 10 times. Rest 30 seconds and repeat another 10 times.

 If you lose your form or cannot complete the full set, then try the exercise from your knees for the push-up and row portion of the exercise. You can also modify the squat thrusts by doing “single knee-to-chest” instead. For the “single knee-to-chest,” from push-up position draw your right knee towards your chest and then back to start. Repeat on the left side. 

Remember, it is better to complete the most repetitions you can using proper form rather than completing more repetitions using poor form. If you cannot complete the full set, do the best you can and complete the set using the modifications listed above. As you become stronger, you can work up to completing a full, unmodified set!
